Winter Concert

The Nathan Hale Orchestra, Band and Chorus delighted the standing-room only crowd at the annual winter concert. Mrs. Hilliard, Mr. Ferrante and Mrs. Telesca worked very hard to showcase the talent of our students.

Students chart progress

Teachers are working with students so that they can graph and see their own progress throughout the year. You will see many examples of Data Walls in the classrooms and hallways.

Ms. Miner prepares the first grade Data Wall in the hallway. As students progress during the year, the will be able to see and celebrate their progress!

Second Graders document shapes with digital cameras.

Mrs. Bordeaux and Mrs. Perkins had their students hunt for squares, circles, rectangles, equilateral triangles, cubes, spheres, cylinders, parallel lines, rectangular prisms. The students were taught how to use the digital cameras, given clipboards and pencils, and set off in small groups to search the hallways and classrooms. Their lesson ended with a slideshow that reviewed all the different shapes.

Can you identify the shapes? (Check out those parallel lines.)

Storyteller Len Cabral visits our school!

Len Cabral, storyteller and author, visited our school October 1st and told stories to all the students.

He had students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades tell fairy tales and folktales. He sent them into the library to the 398.2 section to read and study the stories.

In the picture below he is working with a group of 5th grade students to develop and hone their storytelling skills. He also told stories at the Ice Cream Social!

Helping the Community

Fifth graders and Kindergarteners worked together to spearhead a community helping project. They collected over $100. and a van full of coats and other gently used clothing that was donated to MACC before the holiday break.

Their good work and caring spirit was recognized at the Dr. King celebration organized by the Town of Manchester.

PTA sponsors Aquarium program.

The salt water aquarium stays for 4 weeks. Each Tueday the animals inside are changed. The students have seen echinoderms (sea stars, sea urchins and sea stars), crustaceans ( crabs - including a huge spider crab, shrimp and barnacles), mollusks (claims and snails) and fish. This is a wonderful program which the students really enjoy. Thank you PTA!

Art in the Hallway

Art teacher Mrs. Maloney just finished a unit on the artist Modigliani.

Our students are so talented! The following artwork is up in our main hallway.

Enjoy the artwork here, and keep checking back for the artwork that our students are working on now!
